Spotlight on Stand Up Events and the Don Dunstan Play Fundraiser

At Euphoria Social, we believe in the transformative power of community, art, and activism. We’re always on the lookout for opportunities to support causes that not only inspire but also create meaningful change. That’s why we’re incredibly excited to highlight Stand Up Events and their upcoming fundraising event—a play that pays tribute to one of Australia’s most iconic political figures while supporting a cause close to our hearts.

On Sunday, March 16, from 12:45 PM to 2:30 PM AEDT, Chapel Off Chapel in Prahran will host the Don Dunstan Play, a captivating performance that will transport you into the world of Don Dunstan, the former Labor Premier of South Australia. It’s not just a play—it’s a celebration of activism, courage, and the relentless pursuit of equality. The profits from the play will go to Stand Up Events, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting sexual and gender discrimination.

What is Stand Up Events?

Stand Up Events is a non-profit organization dedicated to tackling some of the most pressing issues of our time—sexual and gender discrimination. Through various initiatives, they raise awareness, fund critical programs, and create opportunities for individuals to come together and make a lasting impact.

Their mission is simple but powerful: to create a world where gender and sexual identities are celebrated, not suppressed, and where individuals can thrive without fear of discrimination. Stand Up Events works tirelessly to support and empower communities through education, advocacy, and events that push for real-world change.

The Don Dunstan Play: A Fundraiser for Equality

This year’s Don Dunstan Play is a perfect marriage of art and activism. The play takes us through the political life of Don Dunstan, a trailblazer who broke barriers both in and out of the Australian political scene. Known for his progressive views, Dunstan opposed capital punishment, stood against the Vietnam War, and supported marginalized groups when it wasn’t popular to do so.

Set in a late-night Adelaide cabaret, the play is an intimate, theatrical experience. It features Don Dunstan in conversation with a young Black African singer/actor who aspires to follow in the footsteps of musical icons like Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. Together, they explore the highs and lows of Dunstan’s life, reflecting on his opposition to injustice and his fearless pursuit of social change.

The performance is full of poetic storytelling, music, and dramatic moments that will leave you reflecting on Dunstan’s legacy. And in true theatrical style, you can expect plenty of surprises and theatrical flair—after all, this was a man who once wore pink shorts to Parliament in a bold act of defiance.
